montreal.
I’m in Montreal (so, Doctor M, you were right). My room here is a massive under-priced loft in the old part of the city, complete with a kitchen I’ll never use, a whirlpool bath I never expected, and a washer-dryer set I can hardly fathom. But no internet. I’m relying on the thin tether provided by my phone and the occasional cafe.
I feel strange having so much space. I wasn’t looking for a large room – I just wanted to stay near Boulevard St-Laurent, so this feels like some kind of karmic recompense for all the times I’ve ponied up for the egregiously over-priced closets that pass for hotel rooms. Now I have a massive room with the sort of fantastically spacious bathroom that’s ideal for my pre-gig ritual of preparation, but no client.
The men here in Montreal are brutally attractive, almost distractingly so, but I’m feeling the need for a little self-imposed dry spell to clear the head. I just don’t have that gut desire to strip someone down and fuck them stupid, though I could use a little stupid fucking. I’m just too thinky right now, and I’m hooked, and distracted, but who knows. When I claim ‘dry spell,’ I invariably fly off the wagon. When I claim ’slowness,’ I shred pillows with my teeth.
Anyway, I’ve come to Montreal for the music. Music, and the space to write and think. I’ve fallen behind in both.

I’m so thrilled we didn’t lose you for months this time.
Have a good think. And listen.
I hope the music and the city are both filled with delights for you. How did you find the room?
Montreal’s a good walking city.
I think it’s Rue St. Denis (in the Plateau) that has all the BYOB restaurants.
My Montreal pal on Twitter says that Reservoir, Cafe Santropol & Cafe Veritas are all great food joints.
I love Montreal!! Do yourself a favor… if you want great music and a chance to chill, head to the old montreal section (I’d give you a street name, but it’s been far too long for me)… find a little jazz club, sit in the corner and just let the issues wash away down the old sewer lines!! Enjoy for the rest of us!!
I was born in Montreal almost 61 years ago. I haven’t been back there in 28 years as all my family in Montreal has passed away. But it is a magical city, Try to see Musée des Beaux Artes and La Ronde (if it is open yet). And definitely try to get to the chalet on Mont Royal to watch the sunrise over the city.
I’ve never been. Do they really put Mayo on everything?
Have a good time.
Montreal is great – my best friend lives there and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience in that city. Enjoy.
i’ve often thought of making all the money i can here, and taking it all and moving to another place eventually, and montreal has always been high up on that list of places to move to. of course now i’d probably have to wait for the exchange rate to better.
anyway i hope you get a lot of thinking and writing done.
my my miss i think i’m honoured that you picked a little piece of canada to land in… and if i lived in that corner i’d suggest coffee that you would avoid ;>
be well and enjoy your head clearing and your giant room. sounds like a really excellent space for recharging
Well, be careful what you drink while you’re listening to all the music, eh.
I’d hate to hear of this happening, eh.
Montreal is a wonderful city ..have been there 4 times and always was amazed by the ambience of a cosmopolitan environment…you can’t beat the cafe’s
Enjoy Montreal, I hope the words come.
Especially since I’m a newbie to the blog- I’ve scoured the archives and now I get to sit and wait for the next post to come out of the ether. I love your style, this style, anyway. I suspect you have others.
Right… well, that was fangirl enough *blush* Anyway, enjoy the city!
I’m not the only one saying “not right now” to sex. My libido is dried up by all the stress I’m experiencing from paper writing and other people being disappointed in me and me being disappointed in other people etc.
funnily enough i have been sexless since the beginning of april myself…
